Grinding specialists Jones & Shipman used the MACH 2012 exhibition as a platform to give two new machines a first public viewing and in addition to selling machines off the stand, reported exceptional levels of interest in their precision cylindrical grinders and compact surface and profiling machines.
“We featured both Jones & Shipman and Kellenberger machines on the stand and in contrasting the large format UltraGrind 2000 CNC cylindrical grinder with the highly compact 624 EASY, demonstrated that in the Jones & Shipman range we can cater for virtually any grinding requirement from high volume production to small batch toolroom work,” explains J&S managing director Mike Duignan.
“However, pride of place at the exhibition went to the two machines on debut - the Ultramat 1000 CNC grinding machine and the high volume, high capacity UltraGrind 2000 CNC, both of which received a very positive response with the first Ultramat being sold off the stand,” he reports. The Ultramat 1000 is equipped with the latest Fanuc® Oi-TD touch screen CNC control with an embedded Windows® system and the latest J&S software suite. This offers the operator all of the advantages of CNC control without the complexity of programming traditional CNC systems. Other features include an ability to tailor the machine precisely to the end use. These include universal options with manual swivel or a fully automatic B axis and as with all J&S machines, great emphasis has been placed on machine design and build quality to enable maximum thermal stability and heat isolation.
The largest machine on display was the latest UltraGrind 2000 CNC cylindrical grinding machine designed for manufacturers of precision and complex precision parts, particularly in small-to-medium sized volumes and where maximum flexibility, is required.
The UltraGrind 2000 CNC is ideal for production environments including aerospace, defence, medical, toolroom, motorsport, volume automotive production and general engineering applications.
Also featured were the Kellenberger KEL-VISTA UR 175/1000 and the J&S 624 EASY, both of which generated high levels of interest for their high levels of technology with their easy-to-use and programming features. “We found the quality of visitor to be very strong and like our turning and milling colleagues, have a fund of high quality leads to pursue,” adds Mike Duignan.
Although maintaining its distinct identity, Jones and Shipman exhibited as part of a Hardinge Group stand which featured a number of turning and milling CNC machine tools, demonstrating the extensive capability of the Group in all aspects of precision metal cutting and finishing.
A welcome visitor to the stand was The Rt. Hon Vince Cable MP who met with Mike Duignan and was able to view at first hand the UK designed and built Jones & Shipman UltraGrind 2000 machine. |
